Family medicine

Length: five, four-week blocks

Location: MCHS Eastridge Clinic

This rotation is essentially your continuity clinic and hands-on practice management. While the residents’ acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes of family medicine will take place during all curricular elements, the primary setting for this training is in the family medicine clinic, as residents provide continuing, comprehensive care to their panels of patients. Residents will develop and maintain a continuing relationship with a panel of patients throughout the three years of residency in their continuity clinic. The relationship must include patient contacts in the family practice center, hospital, nursing home, and patients' homes. It is during this time that you spend part of the day with various business aspects of the practice learning practice management.

Family medicine inpatient service

Family medicine inpatient service

Length: four weeks

Location: MCHS Hospital, Mankato

Residents on the inpatient service rotation are required to carry a minimum average of give adult patients daily. G2 and G3 residents have the added responsibility of assisting and mentoring G1 residents. Residents are supervised by the IM hospitalists and family physicians to which they are assigned. Duties include admissions, consults, discharges, daily progress notes, and assisting PGY1 residents.

Length: four weeks

Location: MCHS Specialty Clinic, Mankato

During this rotation Residents will gain an understanding of basic dermatologic conditions, treatments, and procedures. Rotation is usually structured Monday through Thursday from 8 to noon.

Neurosciences

Neurosciences

Structure/Locations:

  • Two weeks Neurology MCHS Specialty Clinic and MCHS Diagnostic Sleep Center (at Eastridge)
  • One week in Neurosurgery, MCHS Hospital
  • One week in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), MCHS Specialty Clinic Or Madison East, Mankato

Residents work one-on-one with MCHS Providers, providing many opportunities in the evaluation and management of outpatient neurological conditions.

Pediatric emergency medicine

Pediatric emergency medicine

Length: two weeks

Location: MCHS Hospital, Mankato

The pediatric emergency medicine rotation is a two-week, PGY3 rotation that focuses on the evaluation and management of pediatric patients in the emergency room. Shifts are from 3 pm to 11 pm, Monday through Friday.
