Summary

Allyson Hayward, MSW, brings a wide range of social work experience to her work at the University of Minnesota Methodist Hospital Family Medicine Residency, including psychotherapy, advocacy for/with disenfranchised groups, and teaching clinical methods courses to graduate social work students. Allyson's work with residents includes one-to-one and group teaching on various brief clinical interventions; observation, recording, and feedback on patient care; translating research on Adverse Childhood Experiences into practical and empathic responses to patient suffering; assisting and guiding resident Quality Improvement projects on patient food insecurity; resident wellness and reflection meetings; administering leadership development tools and exercises; and co-managing complex patients, modeling the social work "person-in-environment" perspective. She also supervises clinical MSW students, who provide brief behavioral health interventions, as well as ongoing psychotherapy, to our patients free of charge.
